Problem Solving Workshop Day 5
25th April 2008

The days are planned to be informal, interactive workshops where we can share and develop our knowledge and skills. This will be provided through a combination of presentations, discussions, case studies, videos, picture reviews and practical demonstrations. On each day there will be an opportunity to review research based evidence and to answer multiple choice questions which can provide practice opportunities for anyone considering taking the International Lactation Consultants examination.

Please note that the IBLCE does not endorse any particular study day of course.

Aim of the Day:

To acknowledge and build on knowledge and skills related to supporting the breastfeeding dyad with the older breastfeeding baby. To support women when wanting to induce or relactate.

0900 - 0915:

Introduction to the day and each other.

0915 - 1030:
Breastfeeding the older child.
- Returning to work
- Pumping / exclusively breastfeeding or mixed

1030 - 1045:
Coffee.

1045 - 1145:
Nursing when pregnant, tandem feeding, nursing strikes and teething. Looking at issues around weaning onto mixed diet.

1145 - 1300 :
Reviewing case histories / slides on breast conditions.
- Breast reduction / implants
- Plugged ducts
- Galactocele
- Nipple blanching

1300 - 1345:
Lunch

1345 - 1445:
Adoptive mothers and brestfeeding. Relactation.

1445 - 1530:
Tea and review issues around weighing and weight charts.

1530 - 1600:
Multiple choice questions based on the day, feedback and evaluations.

To acknowledge and further develop our understanding of lactation and examine the role of a Lactation Consultant in supporting optimum practices.

0900 - 0915:

Introduction to the day and eachother.

0915 - 1045:
Slow weight gain or failure to thrive. How can we support the breastfeeding dyad?

1045 - 1100:
Coffee

1100 - 1300:
Breastfeeding case studies which look at:
- Recording and record keeping
- Ethical issues
- Cultural issues

1300 - 1345:
Lunch.

1345 - 1545:
Review of slides and pictures related to breastfeeding, some using multiple choice questions. Tea break at appropriate time.

1545 - 1600 :
Feedback and evaluations.
