- The International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) is the professional association for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and other health care professionals who care for breastfeeding families. www.ilca.org

- The primary purpose of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) is to benefit the public by setting standards for the lactation consultant profession. www.iblce.org.

- Lactation Consultants of Great Britain (LCGB) have the qualification of IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), and are involved in supporting breastfeeding in some way. (Associate Members do not need to have the IBCLC title). Many are employed as midwives, neonatal nurses, or health visitors. Others work as breast feeding counsellors in organisations like the National Childbirth Trust, the La Leche League, the Breastfeeding Network or the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers. Some are in specialist hospital or community posts such as Infant Feeding Advisors or Breastfeeding Co-ordinators. www.lcgb.org
